In their words

“3/1/26: removed star because sudden spate of crashing and glitching. Will see how it improves. List feature very difficult. ====== Great app, price jumps like crazy. Used it for a few years, it's great though.”

“Far too many ads. It's a list. Waaaaaay too expensive to make it ad free. Also, why in the heck does it need to be a monthly subscription? I'd pay a one time fee, no way I'm paying monthly for it with its poor functionality. The first page/front page needs to be my lists. Why do I have to click to a different page to get to my reason for using the app? If I could find a better option, I'd use it. My wife and I use this for grocery lists and for packing lists when we go on trips.”

“Ad on every list item?!? Unacceptable! I've been using Cozi (free version) for a couple of years and have been happy with it. I liked the collaboration with recipes and being able to share lists with family. However, today i opened the app and found a large ad on each of my list items, making it extremely difficult to read. I don't have a problem in general with ads in exchange for a free app, but this is ridiculous. Uninstalling as soon as i find a new home for my recipes.”

“Pretty good! Cozi is helping my husband and me stay up to date on our big family's many activities. It has alleviated the burden of us having to communicate every schedule change to him since we can easily send each other notifications right thru the app. However, there is quite a lag when go to open the app. This is frustrating when I'm on the phone w offices trying to schedule appts. Takes forever when switching between monthly/weekly views. It is also slow to refresh once I add a new event.”

Measured, not built

Payer pressure 0.10 clears the gate, but the complaint pattern is diffuse price resentment rather than an unsolved workflow a small team could out-execute. Recorded rather than pursued.

What this study cannot tell you

  • About 41% of substantive reviews are not matched by the taxonomy, so every percentage here is a floor, not a true rate. The miss rate is roughly uniform across niches, so comparisons between them still hold.
  • App-store reviews over-represent the daily user. Buyers complain on G2, Capterra and in churn calls, and those sources are not represented.
  • No recency weighting: a complaint from 2021 counts the same as one from last week, so some cited failures may already be fixed.
  • Coverage is uneven between stores; where an app is iOS-only in practice its share is computed from Apple data alone.
