In their words

“EDIT: STILL NO PROGRESS ON BASIC FUNCTIONALITY!! so frustrating! There are several errors in the way functionality translates from desktop. The saved views (sort) do not appear as saved on desktop. If stuff gets removed from a board, it continues to appear for a second or two after deleted for weeks (forever?) Until you log out & back in again. I could go on, but I see from the canned responses below, and my incredibly frustrating experiences with support that nobody really cares to improve it.”

“Love Trello. It's absolutely great for project management. It doesn't export all info when using "Print to PDF. I love managing my website tasks, and it helps me manage my home inventory. Just wish it could export a fully detailed pdf of the full board, lists, and cards in each list. Honestly I wish it could export a plain text (.txt) file of a full board. That would be very cool. Lowered rating because it still does not do these things.”

“One of the worst app experiences I've ever had. I honestly can't see how this has such a high rating other than potentially paying for reviews. The app CONSTANTLY messes up when creating simple items and gets mixed up, out of sync, sometimes just doesn't create the item but doesn't tell you, etc. Editing updates just doesn't seem to work when putting a checklist in, not sure if that's a consistent bug or otherwise. The thing is a buggy mess that's barely usable for basic adding of items.”

“The app is terrible. I would taste it a 2 out of five except that the mobile version of the web app is so much better. Every change from what they already have is inconvenient. Why did you turn date selection into a series of individual pieces instead of the convenient calendar? Why remove the option for automation? Why didn't you make any change the display to fit a vertically oriented screen? I experienced second hand embarrassment trying to use this thing. I am uninstalling now.”

Not an opportunity — the complainers do not pay

Payer pressure is 0.02. The reviewers are staff, drivers, tenants or parents using software their employer or landlord bought. Their complaints are real and commercially inert: they cannot switch, cannot cancel and cannot be sold to. See the payer gate.

What this study cannot tell you

  • About 41% of substantive reviews are not matched by the taxonomy, so every percentage here is a floor, not a true rate. The miss rate is roughly uniform across niches, so comparisons between them still hold.
  • App-store reviews over-represent the daily user. Buyers complain on G2, Capterra and in churn calls, and those sources are not represented.
  • No recency weighting: a complaint from 2021 counts the same as one from last week, so some cited failures may already be fixed.
  • Coverage is uneven between stores; where an app is iOS-only in practice its share is computed from Apple data alone.
