In their words

“The maps are terrible. The upcoming direction box is huge, but font small, You can't see anything but a straight line on the screen 90% of the time, and by time a turn is displayed, its already in progress, if you haven't missed it. The vocal command prompts are annoying; I don't need to keep being told to join the highway, where else am I gonna go? The no-truck symbol should be on the no-truck streets, not the intersection.”

“The app used to flow smoothly on my Samsung tablet and worked perfectly. Then of course they "updated" it, and now the app is slow and clunky. I've tried re-installing, clearing cache, etc. and nothing works. Still slow and clunky. Interface is easy to use and simple, app runs really slow on my Samsung Tablet A 8.0 and it didn't used to. Please go back to older version until you get it fixed. 7/6/2020.”

“No way this has 4.4 stars. The app frequently notifies me of impending violations while Im off duty. Sometimes it just won't track auto driving. The help line said "unplug it for 15 minutes then re plug it." Uh what? That's not a solution if it keeps happening. When looking at the safety reports it claims I crashed my truck. Pretty sure I'd have noticed. Worst part is the random switching from PC to on duty driving. Very frustrating. I want the rand McNally back.”

“I remember when this app was perfect. Now constantly has problems. Pops up ads when needing a status of a truckstop or weigh station. Keeps adding trips that I have never used, and overrides what I'm trying to use app for. I do not use it for navigation, and won't. The app has become too intrusive. Status of truckstops and weigh stations often return error messages. Follow up to developer replying. I don't care about the ads. Banners are fine. Repeated full screen ads when opening is issue.”

Not an opportunity — the complainers do not pay

Payer pressure is 0.06. The reviewers are staff, drivers, tenants or parents using software their employer or landlord bought. Their complaints are real and commercially inert: they cannot switch, cannot cancel and cannot be sold to. See the payer gate.

What this study cannot tell you

  • About 41% of substantive reviews are not matched by the taxonomy, so every percentage here is a floor, not a true rate. The miss rate is roughly uniform across niches, so comparisons between them still hold.
  • App-store reviews over-represent the daily user. Buyers complain on G2, Capterra and in churn calls, and those sources are not represented.
  • No recency weighting: a complaint from 2021 counts the same as one from last week, so some cited failures may already be fixed.
  • Coverage is uneven between stores; where an app is iOS-only in practice its share is computed from Apple data alone.
